Toyosu Market in Koto-ku, Tokyo, is a wholesale market that sells marine products as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. Tsukiji Market, which had some of the oldest history in Tokyo and was also a popular tourist spot, was moved to Toyosu in 2018 due to deterioration. The same as it was at Tsukiji Market, at Toyosu Market regular customers can walk around inside and specialty business professsionals can buy and sell fish, fruits, and vegetables. Visitors can also observe bidding, which is one of the market's unique characteristics. From the observation gallery set up in block 7, where the marine products are sold, visitors can observe tuna bidding, which is arguably the liveliest and most impactful part of the market. Particularly interesting is the spectacle of the big, frozen tuna that are lined up neatly early in the morning and then carried out one by one. Another recommended spot is the reservation-only "deck observation," at which visitors can experience the enthusiastic voices of the bidders, the smell of fish, and the overall ambiance and atmosphere of the market even more closely.
Also, some say that the true charm of Toyosu Market is its gourmet. Sushi and seafood rice bowls that use fresh ingredients are extremely popular at the market, and the restaurants there are always bustling with lots of people. The normal operating hours of the restaurants are from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but there are some shops that close up early, so it's a good idea to stop by during the morning.
