Matsuejo Castle

Art & Architecture Culture Experience History

Matsuejo Castle is one of the existing castles and is designated as Japan National Treasure. You can see precious architectural designs of the time. Such the sturdily built stone walls and Shachihoko (a mythical animal with the head of a tiger and the body of a carp) made of wood. In addition, the view from the top floor overlooking Matsue City and Lake Shinji is amazing. In the surrounding Jozan Park, there are walking paths, and you can enjoy nature as it changes from season to season, such as pine and bamboo grove, cherry blossom and camellia flowers, and even plum trees. It has also become a place for everyone in the city to come and relax.
