The Kyoto State Guest House, along with Akasaka Palace in Tokyo, plays a role as a hospitality space for prime ministers, speakers of parliament, and other state dignitaries who visit from overseas. The building itself is a blending of traditional Japanese architecture and contemporary architectural technology, a style known as ""modern Japanese"" which aims to exist harmoniously with the surrounding scenery and nature. After opening the door made of a 700-year-old Japanese zelkova tree and entering, visitors will find rooms in a variety of styles, such as juraku, sunset glow, wisteria, and paulownia. Artisanship representative of Kyoto is utilized in the interior design and furnishings of each room, and in the details dwells the heart of hospitality and beauty from across all Japan. The spacious teien garden, colored throughout the seasons by trees and flowers, embodies ""teioku ichinyo,"" which means that fusion between the garden and the building has been achieved.
The guest house is open to the public, but depending on reception, the days it is open vary. Please check the calendar on the official website in advance.
