Kanazawa Station

Art & Architecture Shopping

Often called one of the world’s most beautiful train station, Kanazawa Station perfectly captures the mix between the city’s traditional craftsmen past and its visions for the future. On arrival, visitors will be wowed by the massive wooden gate called Tsuzumi-mon, resembling a torii gate found in front of Japanese shrines. Kanazawa City is a major cultural hub, and the two pillars of the gate resemble tsuzumi, a drum used in Noh theatre, hence its name. A variety of artwork such as lacquerware, woodwork, and ceramics can also be found on the pillars in the station building’s central concourse, paying tribute to Kanazawa’s past.
